Well, this month’s Newsletter seems to be a bit about come-backs. The 1/48 Reggiane Re.2005 had appeared for the first time early in 2020 and got sold out completely very very fast. And now it has got back to our offer. As well as the 1/32 SH32054 Tempest Mk.II Hi-Tech, SH32070 Tempest Mk.V Hi-Tech and SH32055 Tempest Mk.VI. These model kits were unavailable for some time due to the damage of the wing moulding block. So, a new mould had to be manufactured which now enables us to put the kits back to the stock. And the final comeback for this month is the limited batch of the 1/72 72560 Gloster Meteor PR Mk.10 ‘High-Altitude Photo-Recce Version’. This model has not been available since mid 2019. Now we have restocked it and made it available again for your orders. However, we would like to present something else too, not just the re-issues, there are also some all-new kits today for you. So, why not mention the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 ‘J/88 Legion Condor’ then? The social media feedback seems to suggest this kit is going to become a real hit. But let‘s not underestimate the other two kits, both the ground-attack version of the 1/72 Viggen and the Vampire Mk.3 are surely destined to have a huge appeal to the modellers. Our monthly offer would not be complete without the pre-cut mask sets designed for Special Hobby models. In fact, one of them is not only for our own model as it can be used for ICM’s AH-1G Cobra model. But as we have acquired a batch of the poly-bagged sprues from the colleagues at ICM and we are also working on the Hi-Tech format of the basic kit, we can offer this masking set now a bit in advance. Resin cast sets bring really colourful range of accessories this month, from wheels to interior or cockpit sets and not just for aeroplane models, there are sets for 1/35 AFVs as well. So, I do believe, plenty of stuff to chose from.
SPECIAL HOBBY PLASTIC MODEL KITS
AJ-37 Viggen‘Strike Fighter’
The SAAB 37 Viggen was simply an aircraft well ahead of its time. Rather unorthodox solutions brought by the designers not just allowed to meet the requirements, they also caused that the Viggen even exceeded them in a couple of respects. The Swedish Air Force placed order for several versions of the aircraft which would comprise the same basic airframe and would differ by additional equipment based on the role the version should operate in. The type was powered by a Volvo RM8, a licence-built Pratt & Whitney JT8D airliner turbojet fitted with the afterburner chamber and thrust reversers. This, along with the twin-delta wing allowed for excellent performance during take offs and landings especially on short airfields. The Viggen also featured a folding tail fin which improved the handling of the aeroplane on auxiliary airfields, enabled very easy handling during while towing the airplane into the hangar and also contributed to better concealment of the plane during operations off non-standard places. The type’s avionics was also among the very top a the time, the Viggen was the first military jet to feature an onboard computer with integrated circuits. The version first introduced to service with the Swedish military was the AJ37 Viggen, followed shortly by the SK37 two seat jet trainer, the SF37 recce version fitted with cameras in the modified nose section and the SH37 anti-shipping variety with different type of avionics and capable carrying a dedicated armament. Around ten years after the initial version had been introduced into the service, a second generation of the Viggen, the JA37 fighter started to emerge from the production line. Our model portrays the initial production version, the ground-attack AJ37 Viggen. The kit comes on nine styrene sprues, the decal sheet with a very wide range of servicing stencils brings markings for three Swedish schemes, one of which is in bare metal, the other two in the typical Swedish splinter-type camouflage.
Superbly detailed model
Eye-catching colour options.
Plenty of separately available detail sets, figures and painting masks.
DH.100 Vampire Mk.3 ’European and American Operators’
The DH.100 Vampire was a British first generation fighter jet aeroplane and was produced in several versions both for the RAF and for export. The Vampire Mk.3 version saw service not just with the domestic force, it was also operated by military in Canada, Norway and Mexico. And these four operators is what you will find offered on the colour schemes and decal sheet of this kit. It might also be interesting to mention that the Mk.3 Vampires were the very first jets to serve with the air forces of Mexico and Norway. The kit consists of two styrene sprues and a single clear sprue. The decal sheet brings markings for a British, Canadian, Norwegian and a Mexican options. The Canadian one offer a feature typical for the RCAF airframes, a glazed nose section in front of the cockpit.
Crisp surface details
Attractive colour schemes
Two styles of resin cast wheels, early drop tanks and pre-painted photo-etched fret also available for this model – as separate items.
The October Newsletter will inform on the release of wheel and canopy spray masks
Between 1939-40, the Messerschmitt Bf 109E was arguably the very best fighter aeroplane of the world. The type was produced in two main subvariants differing by the type of armament, either heavily or lightly armed. The lightly armed airframe was fitted with machine guns only, two of them above the engine, the other two in the wings. The versions produced with this sort of armament were the E-1, E-5 and E-6. In Spain, during the Civil War, both the lightly and heavily armed Bf 109s served with the ‘volunteer’ Legion Kondor. Our kit brings three E-1s wearing a standard grey and blue camouflage scheme. Machine 6-119 has the ‘Holzauge’ emblem painted on the fuselage, 6-121 sports the very well know Top Hat emblem while the final option, airframe 6-123 has a beer glass and a Mickey Mouse cartoon to make it even more interesting for the modeller. This release is a follow-up to Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 and Bf 109E-4 models which have recently been awarded the Models of the Year 2021. The kit comes on two styrene sprues and one clear sprue.
Superbly detailed model
Decals and colour schemes which you will find really hard to chose just one from
Version not produced before in decent quality
Available separately – spray masks and CMK resin sets
Arguably one of the very best Italian WW2 fighter aeroplanes, even though there were only slightly less than fourty of them built in 1943. And yet the type saw some action in the colours of three operators, the Regia Aeronautica, Aeronautica Nazionale Republicana as well as the Luftwaffe. And these are also the colour options offered in our kit, which is now back in stock as the first release got sold out fairly quickly.
Highly accurate and nicely detailed model
Four colour options with different national markings (2x Regia Aeronautica, 1x Aeronautica Nazionale Republicana, 1x Luftwaffe )
Separately available: M48002 pre-cut masks and Q48364/365/366/367 resin sets
This dedicated high-altitude reconnaissance version of the Meteor twin-jet fighter was operated in the 1950s over the Middle and Far East as well as from West Germany bases where the type was used to peep over the so-called Iron Curtain. The decal sheet brings markings for two machines flown in the FRG, one of them in two colour schemes. Then also two machines in bare metal, one of which operated from Egypt flown by a WW2-ace M.Mansfeld while the other one was based in Singapore.
Pre-cut painting mask for the inside of the cockpit canopy and the wheel hubs of SPecial Hobby’s Heinkel He 162 Spatz models. Why just for the inside of the canopy? Well the Spatz did have the canopy framing only inside the glazing.
Wheels with weighed tyres, spare wheel which is not weighed of course and all of them with very fine and crisp surface detail, that is the content of this set. No need to mention these wheels are much nicer than the styrene ones in the kit. The French ADM-35 armoured fighting vehicle was used not only by the French military, the German Wehrmacht had plenty of them too.
Finely detailed machine gun ammo magazines which were carried on the inside of the armoured door, cannon ammunition magazine and a few more mg ammo magazines to be placed inside the crew compartment and a new machine gun barrel is the contents of this Panhard 178/AMD-35 Armament and Ammunition set. The original ICM kit is also reboxed by Revell and Tamiya, so our resin set will no doubt find wide use, as set 3146 also does.
Beaufighter Mk.I/VI Mainwheels - Early Wheel Disk / Smooth Tyre
Although Revell’s Beaufighter is offered as the Mk.I version, its wheels feature the Mk.X and later hubs, not used on Mk.Is ever. Our wheels with the correct hub style fix this slight error. What is more, the new resin wheels are also weighed and come in one piece, so no need to assemble them from two halves. Can be used with the Tamiya kit too.
New and finely detailed resin wheels which make your Special Hobby and Revell kits (or even that from Kitty Hawk) P-39 Airacobra models look more life-like. The set offers two styles of the nose wheels and comes with photo-etched wheel hub covers.
